Advantech FWA-3260: Best Fit for Network Virtualization, brings a boost to price/performance/power ratios, at any place in the network

Taipei, Taiwan, April 22, 2017 — Advantech, a leading global embedded computing provider, announces the FWA-3260, a flexible network appliance based on the server-class Intel® Xeon® processor D-1500 Series. FWA-3260 provides a wide range of CPU options, from 2-core to 16-core, with a modular design highly suitable for various network applications such as NFV, SD-WAN, vE-CPE, threat emulation, edge computing, etc. It offers high memory capacity up to DDR4 128GB, a 1U high-density rack mount system with multiple expansion possibilities (1G/10G/40G Ethernet, acceleration card, etc.), and software support for LAN bypass and IPMI, all of which reduce customer development efforts.


FWA-3260 enables services to be delivered with high reliability, availability, and serviceability. Leveraging multi-core and virtualization technology, the new processors can be used in designs that optimize data center and network infrastructure workloads in a dense, high-performance, low-power design and bring big-core performance to embedded form factors. Up to 16-Core Embedded Processor with High Memory Capacity and High Data Integrity FWA-3260 is a 1U network rack mount appliance that features Intel's® Xeon® processor D-1500 SoC (System on Chip) to meet the needs for higher core count, larger and faster memory, as well as increased I/O performance, all in a compact footprint that does not sacrifice cost efficiency.


The FWA-3260 features two integrated, embedded 10GE(SFP+) controllers with 128TX/RX queues per port, support for SR-IOV, and optimizations for network overlays such as VxLAN and NVGRE as well as high performance PCIe gen.3 interfaces that complement the processor subsystem of the SoC. Modular Flexible Expansion for the Ethernet and Rich I/O Capability With an optimized system design, the FWA-3260 adds four server-class copper ports based on the Intel® i350-AM4 Ethernet controller, and advanced LAN bypass capabilities as well as flexible, scalable and high performance port expansion via two PCIe gen.3 Network Mezzanine bays (NMC). Support for a PCIe x8 gen.3 full height / half length card provides additional flexibility to integrate special purpose IO cards or QuickAssist™ offload adapters such as Advantech's PCIE-3020. In the base configuration, the system comes with support for two 2.5" SATA HDD/SSDs, two M.2 sockets, LCM, RJ45 console, two USB ports, and two additional GbE management ports.


Serviceability and System Management Capability Featuring an optional server BMC in accordance with IPMI2.0, the FWA-3260 supports state-of-the-art remote and lights-out management for increased reliability, serviceability, and improved total cost of ownership. Advanced features such as power supply monitoring via PMBus allow the whole platform to be remotely managed. All management firmware can be remotely upgraded using the industry standard HPM.1/2 protocol, as can the motherboard system BIOS. All upgrades are fail-safe and support instant rollback, allowing for full system recovery if needed, without the necessity for onsite service staff.While the FWA-3260A SKU is optimized for highest performance and system reliability, supporting redundant, hot-swap power supplies, the FWA-3260B is tailored for best cost in entry level applications. Both systems are fully CE, FCC, CB, UL, CCC, and RoHS 2 compliant.
